    This qualification covers the skills to select components, install, set up, test, fault-find, repair and maintain refrigeration and air conditioning systems and equipment used in food storage and preservation, and in air distribution throughout buildings and premises, including the regulatory requirements for purchasing and handling refrigerants.

    Completing this qualification meets the training component required for the full national Refrigerant Handling Licence, needed to work on equipment that carries a risk of refrigerant emission. RPL suits experienced air conditioning and refrigeration technicians who’ve built their skills on the job.

    Certificate III in air conditioning and refrigeration teaches you to choose, install, and maintain refrigeration systems and air-conditioning units. It covers refrigerant handling criteria, combining education with on-the-job training for qualification.

    You will study as an apprentice, and if you have experience, you'll be evaluated on the job. Skill recognition in education and real or closely simulated environments is critical for assessment.
