      Certifications for Automotive

Our partnered RTOs offer a range of qualifications in automotive body repair and automotive management that can be achieved through RPL assessment. Instead of repeating training you’ve already mastered, RPL recognises your on-the-job learning and formalises it into a qualification that carries weight across Australia.

Through our RPL process, years of panel beating, spray painting, smash repair or workshop management experience can be assessed against real industry standards – from Certificate III in Automotive Body Repair Technology through to Certificate IV and Diploma level qualifications in Automotive Management. There’s no need to sit through training you’ve already lived on the job, which means a faster, more cost-effective path to certification.

Whether you’re behind the tools repairing vehicle bodies, running a smash repair workshop, or managing a dealership or automotive business, a nationally recognised qualification gives your experience something to show for it — better job security, higher earning potential, and a genuine pathway into supervisory or business ownership roles.

We work with RTOs experienced across the automotive body repair and management sector, helping tradespeople and managers alike turn hands-on experience into formal, nationally recognised certification. Start with a free skills assessment to find out which qualification matches the work you’re already doing.

How does the RPL process work?

We’ll conduct a free skills assessment to understand your experience and current qualifications. A dedicated consultant is then assigned to guide you through the process and confirm you’re suitable for RPL. From there, you’ll compile a portfolio of supporting evidence — this can include proof of tasks completed on the job, practical demonstrations of your skills, a resume, references, and your current or most recent job description.

Your portfolio demonstrates that you’ve worked in the industry long enough to have the experience and capability the qualification requires. We’ll then connect you with one of our partner RTOs, whose assessor will review your portfolio. If any gaps are identified, the RTO will provide the additional training needed to close them. Once complete, you’re qualified.

RPL partner RTOs can certify you:

Certificate II in Automotive Body Repair Technology – AUR20920

If you’ve been doing the entry-level work in a body repair shop — panel and paint prep, detailing, glazing, window tinting — AUR20920 is the qualification built to recognise it. We help you gather the evidence, and a partnered RTO assesses it against the national standard, giving you a genuine pathway into Certificate III level.

Diploma of Automotive Management – AUR50116

Running a workshop floor, a dealership or a service department takes real leadership, budgeting and customer service skills — and AUR50116 is the qualification that catches up with what you’re already doing. RPL helps you document that experience for assessment by one of our partnered RTOs.

Diploma of Automotive Technology – AUR50216

Sitting above Certificate IV, AUR50216 recognises technicians working at an advanced diagnostic level — the kind of complex vehicle systems work that usually comes after years on the job, not before it. If that’s you, we help translate that expertise into evidence a partnered RTO can assess.
