    INTRODUCTIOn

    Qualification Overview

This is the trade qualification for an Engineering Tradesperson – Mechanical, covering fitting, assembly, manufacture, installation, modification, testing and fault-finding within metal, engineering, manufacturing and associated industries, with specialisation pathways in machining, fitting, or a combination of both.

It’s typically delivered as an apprenticeship. RPL suits experienced fitters, machinists and toolmakers who’ve never completed the formal trade certificate despite years on the job.

Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade covers the knowledge and skills required by an individual working as an engineering tradesperson within the metal, manufacturing, engineering, or associated industries. The qualification has been developed with the aim to develop competency through a combination of practical and theoretical strategies, such as those delivered through formal apprenticeship or by formal skills recognition assessment processes. This qualification is intended to establish a solid foundation of core skills important throughout the metals and engineering industry; the goal is to produce recipients who are qualified to undertake a number of related jobs often closely associated within the workplace. Basic skills include mechanical cutting, thermal cutting, general machining, tool making, shaping and joining metal, and marking out. The course also covers more specialised areas of knowledge such as mechatronics, fluid power, computer numerical control machinery, computer-aided drafting, and workplace safety.
