    Qualification Overview

    This qualification is built for auto electricians working as master diagnostic technicians — advanced diagnosis and repair of vehicle electrical systems, plus the leadership and supervision that comes with the role. There’s also a Hybrid Electric Vehicle specialisation available for those working in that space.

    Entry typically requires completion of Certificate III in Automotive Electrical Technology, or equivalent demonstrated competency. RPL suits auto electricians who’ve built advanced diagnostic expertise on the job and want that formally recognised — we help build the case, and one of our partnered RTOs carries out the assessment.

    The Certificate IV in Automotive Electrical Technology is suited to master diagnostic technicians within the automotive repair and service industry. The individual will use a range of advanced electrical diagnostic skills to diagnose, repair and service the electrical components and systems in a vehicle. The individual may also be responsible for the supervision and leadership of others.

    You will need to provide a range of evidence to assist your assessor to make a decision about your competence. The types of evidence you may be asked to provide can include:
