Requirements for a Builder’s Licence in South Australia

Consumer and Business Services (CBS) South Australia issues and regulates building work contractor’s licences. Only licence holders can carry out or contract for building work in the state, and all work must be supervised by a registered building work supervisor.

Without a trade background: – Hold a CPC40120 Certificate IV in Building and Construction (or related higher-level qualification) on its own. – Demonstrate at least six years’ experience and five completed projects relevant to your scope of work.

      • A minimum of $10,000 in net tangible assets (a sub-contractor’s licence may be an option if you don’t meet this).

      • All building work carried out under your licence must be supervised by a registered building work supervisor.
